Comparing the dimensions, the Audi stands at 4726 mm as compared to 4633 of the BMW suggesting a wheelbase which is longer by 93mm. The height is pretty identical and so is the boot space at 480. Audi is wider by 31 mm resulting in a more spacious cabin.
However, when it comes to the powertrain, there is no match for that twin power turbo 2.0-litre engine of the BMW. The A4 has gone for downsizing and introduced a new turbocharged 1.4-litre engine in this latest iteration. The 3 series produces a whopping 248 bhp and is miles ahead of the 150 bhp of the A4. With a 0-100 kmph time of 5.8 secs, it leaves the A4 in dust which hits the ton in 8.5 secs. The additional power has a slight effect on mileage where the difference stands at 1.7 kmpl.
Coming to features, the BMW comes with a heads-up display and 18” alloy wheels, the Audi comes with the brilliant Audi virtual cockpit and eight airbags. The Beemer comes with a 8-speed auto gear shift transmission where the Audi is mated to a 7-speed transmission. With a longer wheelbase, the Audi keeps the driver and the family happy with a comfortable ride whereas the BMW has been set up with a more driver-focused approach. The standard features include sunroof, park assist, driving modes climate control system & smart infotainment display.
Comparing the two, both have their own advantages. While the Audi is more affordable and has more safety equipment along with a spacious cabin, the Beemer claws back with its brilliant power train which keeps the driver happy. In the end, while the Audi may not be exciting to drive. It is loaded with features and a more rounded and balanced family sedan.
