After months of previews, spy shots and teasers, the wraps finally came off; Mercedes-Benz unveiled its 4th generation A-class hatchback. This new car was launched at an event in Amsterdam. This edition of the car though has familiar looks but the all-new heavily worked interiors, exterior design and internal space give the hatchback a veil of newness. This model is slated to be a rival for cars like the Audi A3 and the Volkswagen Golf

Sharper, hot looks and loaded with tons of technology, this is what the new generation Benz-A class is. It is not only equipped with new technology but is the most affordable offering of the year. It is truly an A-class model, all thanks to the new engine, increased dimensions and the most important feature, that makes its debut; an intelligent voice assistant.

Similar to the CLS 4-door coupe showcased in 2017, this fourth generation A class gets wider front-tracks, edgier headlamps, air dam, and a bit longer too, that collectively enhance its upgraded look. It also gets a sportier front bumper and two-tone set of wheels in its launch edition with two large air vents flanking the new and much slicker grille.

This rendition is undoubtedly sportier than its predecessor. The reverse stud grille has been taken a step forward too. The grille is rounder, wider and larger than the previous model. It had a silver individual design detail with a blacked out base. A large centred 3-pointed star is placed in the middle flanked with a silver bar extending to the ends.

It has a longer wheelbase too. Along with the current model, the rear fenders are now much wider and masculine that gives this 4th generation A-class Mercedes a much wider stance than its previous one. The rear of the Benz is almost a  redesign, its older squarish and small tail lamps are now much wider and horizontally placed. LED lighting lamp offers a 3-D sense of depth. The rear bumpers are equipped with horizontal vents and the lower half is dominated by large tailpipes. The new model comes in different colour options including matte grey called ‘designo mountain grey’.

The AC vents exhibit a turbine inspired aluminium design that glows red or blue depending on the air temperature flowing through them. Its instrument cluster set up and dual screen infotainment highlight the new interior. Screens are HD and offer a new user interface M-BUX. In addition, the Voice command and navigation features make it easier to control.

The New A- class comes with 1.4lt, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes it close to 160 bph peak power, 350 Nm peak torque and mated with a 7-speed clutch air box. The A-class with front wheel drive model will be available in India, whereas internationally it will be available with both all wheel and front wheel drive option. All in all, it’s got all the makings of a tech and style genius!
