After the tremendous success of the Mahindra XUV500, the compact SUV, the people at Mahindra saw great potential in the subcompact SUV space and brought us the XUV300. The 300 is similar to its namesake in that it has the same muscular contours, wheel arches, front grilles and projector headlamps. Based on the European spec Ssangyong Tivoli, the XUV300 underwent major changes to dovetail with the needs of Indian owners and Indian market conditions. At the Pininfarina facility in Italy the car was made to undergo wind tunnel testing.
XUV300 – specs and features
The car features conveniences such as steering mounted audio and phone control, 60:40 rear row split, cruise control, padded front armrest with storage, bungee strap for stowage, illuminated boot and glove box. There are thoughtful interior features such as bottle holders and sunglasses holder.
All variants have all disk brakes for all four wheels and corner braking control as well as ABS with EBD and two front airbags. The top variant features front, side, curtain and knee airbags. Features such as ESP with roll over mitigation, hill start assist and heated ORVMs are available in higher variants.
XUV300 – prices and variants
The car has a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine with 6-speed manual transmission. Those looking for an automatic XUV300 also have an option available now. The vehicle is available in W4, W6, W8 and W8 optional pack variants. The base model in the manual petrol variant is available for Rs. 8.3 lakhs ex showroom and the top end diesel automatic transmission vehicle is available for Rs. 12.7 upward. The top variant is available with electric sun roof.
